## Description

SharePoint Online (Microsoft 365) has the following limits:

* Max file path (including site URL, folder path, and file name): 400 characters
* Max file name length: 256 characters

Please check Microsoft's documention for updates - [here](https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/restrictions-and-limitations-in-onedrive-and-sharepoint-64883a5d-228e-48f5-b3d2-eb39e07630fa#filenamepathlengths)

## Common Root Causes

* Deeply nested folder structures
* Long file or folder names

## Quick Fixes

* **Flatten Folder Structure**
 * Reduce nesting by moving files/folders to higher-level folders.
 * Example: Instead of `/sites/team/projectA/docs/version1/reports/2025/June/`, try `/sites/team/projectA/reports/`.
* **Rename Files or Folders**
 * Shorten names to use abbreviations or numbers.
 * Example: Rename `Final_Project_Report_2025_June_Version3.docx` → `FP_Report_2025V3.docx`
